Upon arrival in Bali you will need to Purchase a Visa on Arrival (VOA)
On arrival at Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar you will head to the immigration hall, where you will see 2 cubicles on either side of the hall with signs that read Visa on Arrival (VOA). Line up at one of them to purchase your visas US $25 per person in undamaged bills (No Credit Cards).
Your Visa On Arrival is good for a stay of up to 30 days and requires that your passport is good for 6 months or longer from the date of entry into Indonesia. Children are not exempt.
As of January 26, 2010 the 30 day VOA can be extended for another 30 days or a 60 day visa which can be obtained prior to leaving home. The extended VOA will cost an additional $25 USD per person and a 60 day visa arranged in the US will cost $45.
With your visa in hand proceed to the next line and when asked to come forward present your passport, VOA and Immigration Card (given out on the plane or in your port of embarkation). You will be required to present these to 2 separate immigration officials. You will be given back your passport and the tear off portion of the immigration card which is required to leave the country. It is very important that you don’t lose the immigration/departure card.
Proceed to the baggage claim area. There are porters available to hire in this area and they may try to grab your bags from you. They are not just being helpful, they do expect to be paid on a per case basis, as this is their livelihood. The recommended fee per case can be found on small signs near the baggage carousels. Our taxi drivers will be meeting you just outside the main doors. Therefore, if you do not wish to hire a porter be polite and firm in saying “No, thank you”-“Tidak, Terima Kasih”. Then keep moving with your luggage to the customs area with your customs card ready for inspection (this should have been handed out on the plane as well).
There are public toilets situated at the far end of the baggage claim area if you need them.
There are a number of ATM’s in the baggage claim area or there are money changers as you leave the customs area. They will all be waving and smiling to get your attention. Our drivers will not require tips or payment right away as they will be with you throughout the trip.
There is an International Airport Departure Tax of Rp.150.000 upon leaving Indonesia.
(I would recommend tucking this amount away with your departure card in a secure place).
If you overstay your Visa – the charge is US$ 20.00/day to be paid in Rupiah.
